How it works
A broker-led yacht sale, step by step.
Whether you are buying or selling, a HELM broker guides the deal from first message to closing day.
Buying
Step 1
Browse and inquire
Search the fleet, save yachts you like, and message a broker about any listing. There is no cost or commitment to look or ask questions.
Step 2
Showing
Your broker coordinates a time to see the boat in person, at the marina, private dock, or storage yard where it sits.
Step 3
Offer and deposit
When you are ready, your broker submits an offer with price and terms. Once accepted, you put down a deposit, commonly around 10%, held in escrow by a neutral third party.
Step 4
Survey and sea trial
A marine surveyor inspects the boat and you take it out on the water. This confirms condition and performance before you are locked into the deal.
Step 5
Financing and insurance
If you are financing, your lender finalizes approval. You also line up marine insurance, which is typically required before you take ownership.
Step 6
Closing day
Title and registration transfer, funds are released from escrow, and the yacht is officially yours.
Selling
Step 1
Broker call
Tell us about your yacht and what you are hoping for. A broker reviews the boat, your timeline, and answers your questions.
Step 2
Pricing strategy
Your broker builds a price recommendation from comparable sales, current listings, condition, and equipment.
Step 3
Listing goes live everywhere
Once you sign a listing agreement, your yacht is photographed, described, and syndicated to major marketplaces including boats.com, YachtWorld, Boat Trader, and YATCO.
Step 4
Showings and offers
Your broker coordinates buyer showings and brings you every offer, helping you compare terms and negotiate.
Step 5
Managed closing
Once you accept an offer, your broker and a closing/escrow team manage survey, sea trial, paperwork, and title transfer.
Step 6
Get paid
At closing, sale proceeds are released from escrow to you, minus commission and any loan payoff, and the sale is complete.
